The Home Department of Uttar Pradesh handed over the Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) final report regarding the Ayodhya Ram Temple donation theft case to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir Teerth Kshetra Trust on Tuesday. This development marks a significant step in addressing the alleged theft of donations made to the temple.
Sources confirm that the SIT’s final report reached the temple trust following necessary actions taken by the Uttar Pradesh Home Department.
This case revolves around accusations concerning the theft of financial offerings at the revered Ayodhya site. The Uttar Pradesh government took action by reconstituting the SIT to enhance the investigation into the alleged embezzlement of donations made at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple.
The newly restructured SIT, led by Inspector General Kiran S, includes key members such as Deputy Inspector General of Ayodhya Somen Verma and Senior Superintendent of Police Ayodhya Dr. Gaurav Grover. The earlier SIT consisted of Lucknow Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant and Special Secretary (Finance) Neel Ratan Kumar. The reformation aims to strengthen the investigation and restore public confidence.
Earlier on Monday, the Supreme Court noted that it could not share the SIT’s status report with petitioners or any other parties at this stage. However, it did permit interested individuals to submit their suggestions regarding the investigation to the office of the Solicitor General, who will then relay them to the SIT for consideration.
The bench, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, instructed the newly constituted SIT to deliver a status report at the next hearing, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
The alleged multi-lakh rupee donation scam stems from claims of systematic theft by temple staff involved in counting and managing devotees’ offerings. The situation has prompted calls for accountability from the political opposition, asserting the need for transparency in the matter.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, authorities arrested eight individuals connected to the case. The arrests include Avinash Shukla, Ankalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey, Rama Shankar Mishra, Subhash Srivastava, and Rama Shankar alias Tinnu, all of whom are currently under judicial remand.
The FIR, lodged on June 25 at the Ram Janmabhoomi Police Station by Krishanmohan, a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, details a conspiracy involving temple staff accused of misappropriating the donations. The complaint specifically alleges a systematic approach to theft, raising alarm over potential breaches of trust in temple operations.
The unfolding scandal has not only attracted media attention but has also escalated political confrontations. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party faces intensified scrutiny from the opposition, focusing on accountability and the need for an open debate regarding the ongoing situation.
As investigations continue, authorities dig deeper into the allegations surrounding the misappropriation of donation funds. Political interactions and public discourse around this case are likely to intensify as more details come to light.
The Ayodhya Ram Temple, a significant religious site, remains central to many discussions in India, highlighting the intersection of spirituality, trust, and financial accountability in worship.
