Sunil Sharma Meets LG Manoj Sinha to Address J&K Concerns

On September 16, 2025, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma met with Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan Srinagar to discuss pressing issues affecting Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting aimed to find solutions to challenges arising from recent natural calamities.

Critical Issues: Road Connectivity, Power & Water Supply

Shri Sharma raised significant concerns over road connectivity within the Union Territory. He shared that many villages remain cut off due to landslides and floods, which is hampering public movement and hindering access to essential services, including healthcare and supplies.

Moreover, the situation surrounding power and water supply was addressed in detail. Numerous regions facing severe flooding are experiencing extended electricity outages and irregular access to drinking water, which is complicating daily life for many residents. “The administration must prioritize restoration to alleviate these hardships,” Shri Sharma emphasized.

Urgent Need for Enhanced Flood Relief

During the conversation, flood relief measures were a primary topic. Sharma pointed out that the current allocation for families affected by flooding and destruction of homes is grossly inadequate. He urged the government to increase financial support significantly, allowing residents to rebuild their lives with dignity。

A recent report cites that over 5,000 homes were severely damaged in the recent floods, underscoring the need for effective intervention in flood relief efforts.

Postponement of Competitive Examinations

The postponement of competitive examinations including the JKPSC Lecturer recruitment and Munsiff examinations, was also a focal point. Sharma raised concerns from students who are struggling to prepare or reach examination centers due to poor connectivity and ongoing flood issues. He insisted on the necessity of rescheduling these exams to ensure fairness.

Sharma noted, “Accessibility to these examinations is crucial for aspiring candidates in this region.” His appeal for adjustments on this front reflects a broader concern for educational equity in times of crisis.

Assurance from LG Manoj Sinha

In response to the outlined concerns, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha provided a patient and attentive ear, assuring that these matters would be addressed on a priority basis for prompt resolution.

Shri Sunil Sharma expressed his gratitude, stating, “It is my duty to act as a voice for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. I will consistently raise their concerns with utmost sincerity and commitment, ensuring every citizen’s voice is acknowledged and acted upon.”

This productive meeting demonstrates a necessary commitment to resolving critical issues in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the wake of recent natural disasters. Effective communication and swift action will play key roles in ensuring the welfare of residents moving forward.
