The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the filing of nominations for the second phase of voting in the 18th Lok Sabha elections will commence on Thursday. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ECI stated that the Gazette notification covering 88 Parliamentary Constituencies (PCs) across 12 States/Union Territories (UTs) participating in the General Elections to Lok Sabha 2024 will be issued on the same day.
Polling for these 88 PCs, along with one part PC in Manipur (Outer Manipur), is scheduled to take place on April 26th. The Outer Manipur PC, consisting of fifteen Assembly Constituencies (ACs), will see polling on April 19th for Phase 1 and on April 26th for the remaining thirteen ACs.
The second phase will encompass the states/UTs of Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, in addition to one part of the Outer Manipur seat.
The deadline for filing nominations is set for April 4th, with scrutiny of nominations scheduled for April 5th for most regions and April 6th specifically for Jammu and Kashmir. The general elections are scheduled to be conducted in seven phases from April 19th to June 1st, with the results to be announced on June 4th.
