A cloudburst struck Chatroo in Kishtwar district at around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, resulting in a flash surge of water that damaged multiple houses and structures. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
The meteorological reports indicate that this incident comes amid a spell of moderate to heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir. Forecasters had earlier warned of intense showers, flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
After the cloudburst, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Chatroo promptly led a team from the police and civil administration to the affected region. They initiated damage assessments and began relief measures immediately. Restoration work is currently in progress to alleviate the situation.
Simultaneously, heavy rainfall resulted in significant waterlogging in the Pahlipora area of Shopian, south Kashmir. Rainwater breached several homes in this region, prompting the deployment of police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel for rescue and relief operations.
Authorities maintain heightened vigilance, particularly for those residing in low-lying or landslide-prone areas. Residents are advised to stay away from streams, nallahs, and unstable slopes until forecasts suggest an improvement in weather conditions.
