In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday arrested two alleged peddlers and seized over one kilogram of charas in separate raids conducted in Shopian and Budgam districts. These operations mark a continuing effort by the authorities to combat substance abuse in the region.
In Shopian, police acted on specific intelligence, registering FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act. They obtained a search warrant from the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Shopian. A police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Zainapora, accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the home of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh in Humhuna Nagbal.
During the operation, officers recovered one kilogram of a charas-like substance along with a grinder suspected to be used for processing the contraband. Police officials stated that the main accused remains at large, but operations to apprehend him continue unabated.
“Our teams are committed to tracking down individuals associated with drug trafficking networks. We will ensure that such illegal activities face strict legal consequences,” a police spokesperson said.
Concurrently, in another operation, Police Post Wachi intercepted Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, an individual from Pombia Kulgam, at a checkpoint located in Naghard Wachi. Authorities discovered he was in possession of 101 grams of charas-like substance. As a result, police registered FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Zainapora for further proceedings.
Meanwhile, in Budgam, police intensified their efforts against narcotics. During routine drives at Checkpora Kralpora, officers arrested Moomin Qadir Dhobi, who was found carrying 112 grams of charas-like substance. A case has been initiated against him under FIR No. 173/2025 in Police Station Chadoora, and the investigation is ongoing.
Both incidents highlight the relentless fight against drug peddling in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities are increasingly vigilant, conducting frequent operations to disrupt the supply chains of narcotics.
Experts note that these measures stem from growing concerns about drug abuse in the region. According to a recent report by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, incidents of drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir have risen significantly, prompting state-level interventions.
The police’s proactive stance aims to not only apprehend individuals but also to send a strong message to potential offenders that drug trafficking will attract severe penalties.
As investigations proceed, police continue monitoring neighborhoods susceptible to drug-related activities. Authorities stress community awareness and cooperation as vital components of tackling the drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir.
