The Congress Party heightened its criticism of the BJP-RSS coalition on Monday, accusing them of orchestrating a conspiracy to silence Rahul Gandhi. This comes in light of alarming statements made by Printu Mahadev, a former leader of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which is closely affiliated with the RSS.
During a televised debate, Mahadev made inflammatory remarks, threatening that ‘Rahul Gandhi will be shot in the chest.’ This unprecedented declaration triggered outrage from Congress leaders who condemned it as an attempt to intimidate and suppress opposition voices.
Pawan Khera, head of Congress’ media and publicity department, stated, “No action has been taken in response to such a dangerous threat. This reflects a larger conspiracy to silence the Leader of Opposition and undermine democratic principles.”
Highlighting the seriousness of the threats, Khera referenced a previous letter from the CRPF concerning Rahul Gandhi’s security. He questioned why such security concerns were being politicized. “This stinks of a conspiracy,” Khera added, urging the public to reflect on who might be behind this growing climate of fear.
Congress leaders believe this conspiracy emerges from BJP’s desperation, as they face what Khera describes as an ideological battle they are losing. “They lack the ideas to counter Rahul Gandhi’s rising influence among people from Kashmir to Kanyakumari,” Khera noted, accusing the BJP of engaging in vote theft and being caught off guard by Gandhi’s popularity.
Echoing these sentiments, Congress general secretary K C Venugopal sent a formal complaint to Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding Mahadev’s chilling remarks. He stressed that failing to act against the threat would indicate complicity in normalizing violence against opposition figures.
In a poignant declaration, Venugopal declared, “This is a calculated threat against one of India’s leading political figures, undermining the Constitution and the security owed to every citizen.”
Furthermore, Venugopal asserted that the death threat symbolizes a toxic atmosphere of hatred, which endangers not just Rahul Gandhi but the sanctity of India’s democratic framework. He called for immediate legal action to deter such violent rhetoric from becoming normalized.
