Leh, November 2: During her two-day visit to Ladakh, President Droupadi Murmu expressed her optimism that a new era of peace, progress, and prosperity had taken root. She made these remarks at a civic reception held in her honor by the Ladakh administration on her second day of the visit.
President Murmu also emphasized Ladakh’s tremendous potential for the development of spiritual, adventure, and eco-tourism. The visit marked her maiden tour of Ladakh, where she had attended the 5th Ladakh UT Foundation Day celebrations the day before.
On the second day of her visit, she was welcomed at Sindhu Ghat, Leh, and thanked the people of Ladakh for their warm reception during her first visit as the President of India. She later engaged with various tribal groups from Ladakh, including the Brokpa, Changpa, Balti, and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Leh.
The President praised the significant advancements in infrastructure development, e-governance, healthcare, housing, women’s empowerment, tribal outreach, and inclusive development in the region. She noted that the people of Ladakh were moving forward with enthusiasm to contribute to India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
President Murmu expressed her confidence in the people of Ladakh, as they continue to progress together towards peace, development, and patriotism.
Speaking at Sindhu Ghat, the President highlighted the cultural and spiritual significance of the Sindhu River in the consciousness of all Indians. She also conveyed her delight in meeting the warm and loving people of Ladakh and their special place in the hearts of all Indians.
The President praised the bravery and faith in Buddha of the people of Ladakh, acknowledging their valuable contributions to the nation’s defense. She stressed the region’s vast potential for spiritual tourism, adventure tourism, eco-tourism, and wellness or health tourism.
Addressing tribal groups, the President emphasized the role of Self-Help Groups in empowering women socio-economically and enabling them to take control of their lives. She commended the government’s initiatives for the transformation of tribal society and its focus on holistic development.
President Murmu lauded the preservation of rich tribal traditions in Ladakh, noting the affinity for nature reflected in their arts, dances, songs, and lifestyle. She encouraged the preservation of tribal lifestyles, coupled with the adoption of modern development for sustainable growth, achieving a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.
In his welcome address, Lieutenant Governor Ladakh B.D. Mishra praised President Murmu for her inspirational life, marked by dedication to empowering disadvantaged sections of society and the socio-economic empowerment of women. Her vision and ideals, he stated, would continue to guide the world’s largest democracy.
